Our team consists of entrepreneurs, chief executives, and senior advisors to some of the world’s best companies. We have experience with the world’s largest companies, but have also built companies from the ground up. We have led IP-driven transactions as both principles and advisors.

Kevin Rivette, Managing Partner

Kevin is a founder and partner of the Palo Alto office of 3LP Advisors. He is the former Chairman of the USPTO oversight committee. Prior to 3LP, he was the Vice President of IP Strategy for IBM, and was a Senior Advisor to The Boston Consulting Group on IP strategy. He is also the author of Rembrandts in the Attic, a widely read and foundational work on Patent Strategy, and the founder and CEO of Aurigen Systems, an IP analytics firm. In 2008, Kevin was named to the IP Hall of Fame by Intellectual Asset Management, and in 2009 was named one of "The World's Leading IP Strategists." He is a registered patent attorney in the State of California.

Mark Blaxill, Managing Partner

Mark is a founding partner of 3LP Advisors, in the Boston office. He has over 25 years of strategy consulting experience, with extensive experience in technology related industries. Prior to 3LP, Mark was a Senior Vice President at The Boston Consulting Group, where he led the firm’s Strategy Practice investments, launched the IP Strategy Practice and recruited BCG's core IP Strategy team. Mark is a co-author of the book The Invisible Edge, on IP strategy, and has been named one of "The World's Leading IP Strategists" by IAM Magazine. Mark is a graduate of Princeton University, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Ralph Eckardt, Managing Partner

Ralph is a founding partner of 3LP Advisors, in the Boston office. He has extensive experience in Intellectual Property strategy, especially in a broad range of technology-related industries. Mr. Eckardt has over 12 years of professional services experience. Prior to 3LP, he led BCG’s IP Strategy consulting practice, and where he led numerous client assignments in technology, industrial, and consumer industries. Ralph is a co-author of the book The Invisible Edge, on IP strategy, and has been named one of "The World's Leading IP Strategists" by IAM Magazine. Ralph is a graduate of Messiah College, and holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.

David Morland, Director

David joined 3LP Advisors in 2008 as Director of Strategy and Business Development. Prior to joining 3LP, David was a Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group, where he advised technology and life sciences companies on a broad range of strategic issues. He previously worked in Business Development at Cubist Pharmaceuticals and Strategic Marketing at Symantec Corporation. David graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College with a BA in Engineering Sciences. He also earned a BE in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Anthony Trippe, Director

Anthony Trippe is Director of IP Analytics and joined 3LP Advisors in 2008. Previous to 3LP Advisors Anthony was Sr. Innovation Manager at CAS where he was responsible for creating new product ideas around the areas of chemical, life sciences and patent information. Mr. Trippe has a long history of working in the patent information field and has been a sought after speaker for many years on the topic of patent analysis and visualization. He has a background in organic chemistry, and received a Master's degree in synthetic organic chemistry and worked early in his career at several different pharmaceutical companies.

Matthew Stack, Director

Matt joined 3LP Advisors as a Director in 2009. Previously, Matthew was a Project Leader at The Boston Consulting Group in the Boston and New York offices, where he worked on projects in the Health Care, IT, Retail, Industrial Goods, and Strategy practice areas focusing on cost structuring and modeling, corporate growth strategy, acquisitions, and post-merger integrations. Prior to joining 3LP, Matt co-founded and ran a health care software startup, a small electronics company, and a composites distribution firm. Matt holds a B.S.E. in Computer Architecture and Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, and has conducted research at the Strategy Institute and Santa Fe Institute.

Gerren Crochet, Associate

Gerren joined 3LP Advisors in 2008 as an Associate in the Palo Alto office. He was previously an Analyst with ThinkEquity Partners, LLC., where he was responsible for quantitative analysis on current and potential growth stocks owned within ThinkFunds. Gerren graduated from Stanford University with a double major in Psychology and Communications.

Mark Gober, Associate

Mark joined 3LP Advisors in 2010 as an Associate in the Boston office. He was previously an Investment Banking Analyst with UBS in New York, where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and restructuring transactions for a variety of financial institutions.  Mark graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a major in Psychology, emphasizing behavioral economics and decision-making. He was also a captain of Princeton’s Men’s Varsity Tennis Team.

Shuo Yang, Associate

Shuo joined 3LP Advisors in 2010 as an Associate in the Palo Alto office. Previously, he was an Associate with The Boston Consulting Group in the San Francisco office where he worked extensively on technology and health care strategy.  Additionally, he has been part of a startup aimed at using coal liquefaction technology to produce clean energy in Asia.  Shuo graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Engineering.  He earned a Masters degree from Stanford University in Management Science and Engineering.
